Costa Rica Coffee Origins Map

Costa Rica's coffee-growing regions are concentrated in the Central Valley, Tarrazú, and West Valley areas, at elevations between 1,200 and 1,700 meters. Costa Rica is unique in that it legally banned the production of Robusta coffee in 1989, ensuring that only high-quality Arabica is grown.

Costa Rica pioneered the honey processing method — where some of the coffee cherry's mucilage is left on during drying — creating unique sweetness and body. The country's commitment to sustainability and environmental protection sets it apart, with many farms practicing organic and shade-grown cultivation.
